Coping with lockdown ...................

13th April 2020
I have neglected this website for a considerable while but the Covid-19 lockdown has rekindled my interest in photography. My options are very limited at present due to restriction of movement but I'm trying to make the best of what is available to me. I've launched a project to record the progress of the plants on my balcony during the changing seasons. There is something quite therapeutic about observing nature at such a time of crisis.

I've added two recently taken photographs to my Penarth portfolio. The colours of a bright winter's day contrast sharply with the existing black and white images.
Barry Island Revisited

05th December 2017
As part of my recent Snow Dog project I returned to Barry Island for the first time in several years and I was so impressed by what I saw. A lot of money had been spent to improve the promenade and I thought that it looked absolutely stunning. Okay, the bright early winter sunshine helped, as did the fact that the tide was out giving the visitors plenty of space to walk their children and dogs. But what not had long ago been a 'Faded Glory' was now an attractive place to chill out. I've added five photographs to my Barry Island portfolio to show the website viewer exactly what I mean ............!
SnowDogs is complete ................... !

24th November 2017
I have finally completed my SnowDogs project. My goal was to photograph all 43 of the large dogs but one had somehow disappeared. Anthem who was supposed to be on the Millennium boardwalk outside the Principality Stadium. Where was the missing dog? Had he been kidnapped and held to ransom. If anyone knows where I can locate the elusive hound please let me know!
Back after a period of inactivity ....................!

It's been quite a while since I added any new material to my website but recently I have found much needed inspiration.
As part of a fundraising campaign a local charity, Ty Hafren Children's Hospice, has commissioned the placement of 'Snow Dogs' around Cardiff and at a number of nearby locations. Colourfully decorated fibre glass sculptures offering a bit of visual fun for a very commendable cause.
Please have a look!

After a period of relative inactivity, where I only used my camera abroad, I've recaptured my interest for local photography. Please have a look at my Cardiff Snow Dog portfolio. A combination of interesting designs, fascinating colour combinations and iconic Cardiff scenes. And all in the name of a respected local charity, Ty Hafren children's hospice. I will make a generous donation towards this worthy cause in appreciation of the Snow Dog journey through my home city.

Not exactly my original brief, photographs of Cardiff. But recently I've been to India to see the endangered tigers. Very elusive animals but a couple of good photographs. Judge for yourselves!
Photographs from Africa …….

I have just returned from a two week desert safari in some of the remotest areas of Namibia. Although the original intention of this site was to concentrate on Cardiff and its surrounds, I have now decided to include images from my more distant travels. I have added a new portfolio, Namibian Wildlife, to the "Further Afield" gallery and in the next few days I will also add a portfolio of the landscapes and people of Namibia.
A new portfolio group …….

20th May 2015
I've decided to broaden my horizons and include photographs from my travels beyond the confines of Cardiff and The Vale. So, I've created a new portfolio group; "Further Afield". My first addition is "Puffins and Friends", a snapshot of Skomer Island off the coast of Pembrokeshire.
I took these pictures under the tuition of Andy Davies, a local professional photographer. For more detail go to "Links".

I've added several more photographs and this portfolio is now complete. That's not to say that I won't upload new pictures in the future if I think that they enhance the series.

To keep this website alive I've added a new gallery to "Town and Around". Valleys Line, a work in progress using the local trains as a focus for landscape photography.
A bit quiet at the moment …..

Sorry but no new additions for several weeks!
I'm currently doing a black and white photography course which is keeping me very busy. And the weather hasn't been great at the weekends here in South Wales so there's been little opportunity to go out with my camera. But as part of my course I'm working on a new project and hopefully it will soon come to fruition and provide some fresh material to upload to this site.
I'll keep you posted!

Multiple new additions …...

A beautiful winter's morning so I was out with my camera nice and early. First of all the Forest Farm nature reserve. Only two new photographs. "Slanting Light" in the Urban Sanctuary portfolio and "February" in the Fence Posts portfolio. I had been hoping for snow for the fence post set. Twenty days to go and who knows, if we get some of the white stuff I might update this series.
After that, down to the abandoned St Fagan's tennis club. In conversation with a work colleague a couple of weeks earlier I was told that this once thriving community facility had been closed because of repeated flooding from the nearby River Ely. It was exactly the sort of place I had in mind for a photoshoot.

Today I added a new portfolio to the "Town and Around" gallery. "Unloved Cardiff" shows exactly that, areas of the city that lie neglected or undeveloped. This is a work in progress and new photographs will be uploaded over the next few weeks.

More new photographs …….

A superb winter's morning. Beautiful sunlight, a trace of frost and a light mist rising from the Forest Farm canal. I couldn't resist going out, this time with my 100mm-400mm telephoto lens. This year, as well as capturing the light and shade of the nature reserve and the ever changing flora, I want to focus a little more on the fauna. I've added seven photographs to the "Urban Sanctuary" portfolio and the January picture for "Fence Posts". I'm still hoping for some snow or a heavy frost so this month's fence post photograph may yet change.
Barry Island project completed ……..
03rd January 2015
03rd January 2015
It was horribly wet and windy in South Wales this morning, ideal conditions for a photoshoot to add to my Barry Island portfolio. I wanted some high contrast black and white pictures taken on a bleak winter's day to contrast with my colour photographs captured in August. A few brave soles had ventured out today but the throngs of people who had packed the area in the summer were notably absent. The Pleasure Park has now closed adding to the sense of dejection of what was once a thriving holiday destination for the coach and train loads of workers from the Welsh Valleys. Truly a Faded Glory.
